Can you get Pregnant on your Period?

Typically, it is not possible to become pregnant while you are on your period. Most women have a cycle that runs around 28 days. However, it is possible for the cycle to run much longer or much shorter than this timeframe.

Throughout the month, the woman’s body prepares to become pregnant. This means that it must build up the uterine lining so that the embryo can attach to it if it becomes fertilized. Another cycle that is important in the woman’s reproductive system is the ovulation cycle.

While the woman’s body is going through this cycle, her ovaries will prepare an egg to be released. When it is time for the egg to be released, it will travel through her fallopian tubes and into the uterus where it will wait to become fertilized. If it doesn’t not become fertilized, the egg will expire and the uterine lining will begin shedding. This is what happens when a woman starts her period.

After you have a period, it is usually a couple of weeks or so before you begin ovulating again. However, depending on the length of your cycle, it is possible for it to begin sooner. Some women are able to become pregnant when they have sex on their period because their bodies ovulate much sooner than normal.
